1794-1872 Painter and draughtsman, brother of Ludwig Ferdinand Schnorr von Carolsfeld. He was taught engraving by his father and then trained under Heinrich Feger at the Akademie in Vienna (1811-15). Though not particularly excited by the curriculum, he was inspired by his friendship with Ferdinand Olivier and Joseph Anton Koch and the circle around A. W. Schlegel to an interest in both landscape sketching and in old German and Netherlandish art, as reflected in the style of the detailed pen drawing of the Prodigal Son (1816; Dresden, Kupferstichkab.). From 1815 to 1818 he lived in the house of Ferdinand Olivier, whose step-daughter, Marie Heller, he later married. TROOST, Cornelis
Dutch painter (b. 1697, Amsterdam, d. 1750, Amsterdam). Dutch painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He was the most important Dutch artist of the 18th century; he received many commissions (the catalogue by Niemeijer contains 925 numbers). Although he generally looked back to the genre scenes of the Dutch 17th-century masters, his satirical paintings earned him the nickname 'the Dutch Hogarth' after his English contemporary.
Lubin Baugin
1610-1663 French Lubin Baugin Gallery French painter. He became a master in the painters guild of Saint-Germain-des-Pras in 1629. From c. 1636 he was in Italy, but he is known to have been in Paris again in 1641; in 1645 he became a member of the Acadmie de St Luc, and in 1651 he was also a member of the Acadmie Royale after the temporary amalgamation of the two institutions. Like many of his generation he was deeply influenced by the art of the Fontainebleau school.
